Today I went for a hike in open space near the Carquinez Strait and boy.. it was stinky! It smelled like skunk everywhere! I didn’t see a single skunk, but you could tell they had been around. It’s always good to have a lot of respect for skunks, but they don’t actually like to spray if they don’t have to. Usually they only spray as a last resort. Like if they get cornered or if they get scared. Maybe a dog got too close or something.
It was really beautiful out and while the wind was a little chilly, I was grateful that it helped blow the stinky skunk smell away.

Here’s a photo from my hike with my dog Camilla (she did not encounter any skunks and is good about staying away from wildlife).
